Why Do We Do This?

Why Do We Do This?

The Alliance for Agriculture grew out of ideas and conversations with farmers as we worked on the Regrow Fund for VisitRico after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico in September 2017.

It was undeniable that the organic farming sector was not on the government's radar; it was clear that the government needed to hear the collective voice of the sector. The sector was at a disadvantage; for it to thrive, like any other economic sector, it needed economic and technical support.

Operational and structural capacities were needed to direct resources to projects on a consistent and sustained basis.

We realized that only a few organizations in Puerto Rico had the operational focus and management skills necessary to receive a flow of resources.

Experienced individuals, farmers, administrators, financiers, economists and advocacy experts have come together, and today we have the Alliance for Agriculture, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation designed as a permanent vehicle with the mission to transform the way agriculture is done in Puerto Rico.
